Maximilian Hornung has established himself as one of the leading cellists of his generation in recent years. Today, he\u00a0<\/span>regularly performs as a soloist with renowned orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia\u00a0<\/span>Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Czech Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony, Swedish\u00a0<\/span>Radio Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, Bavarian Radio\u00a0<\/span>Symphony Orchestra, Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Bamberg Symphony, under conductors such as Daniel Harding,\u00a0<\/span>Yannick N\u00e9z\u00e9t-S\u00e9guin, Mariss Jansons, Esa-Pekka Salonen, David Zinman, Pablo Heras-Casado, Andr\u00e9s Orozco-Estrada,\u00a0<\/span>Semyon Bychkov, Bernard Haitink, Manfred Honeck, Antonello Manacorda, John Storg\u00e5rds, Michael Francis, Mario Venzago,\u00a0<\/span>Jonathan Nott, Kristjan J\u00e4rvi, Andrew Manze, Krzysztof Urba\u0144ski, and Robin Ticciati. His chamber music partners include\u00a0<\/span>Anne-Sophie Mutter, Antje Weithaas, H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Grimaud, Daniil Trifonov, Christian Tetzlaff, Lisa Batiashvili, Fran\u00e7ois Leleux,\u00a0<\/span>Joshua Bell, Yefim Bronfman, Herbert Schuch, Lars Vogt, Hisako Kawamura, J\u00f6rg Widmann, and Tabea Zimmermann. He\u00a0<\/span>has been invited to perform at the festivals in Schwetzingen, Salzburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern,\u00a0<\/span>Rheingau, Lucerne, Verbier, Ravinia, and Hong Kong. He has appeared in concert halls such as the philharmonic halls of\u00a0<\/span>Berlin, Cologne, and Essen as well as the Vienna Musikverein, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and London\u2019s Wigmore Hall.\u00a0<\/span>Highlights of the 2022\/23 season include debuts with the Bavarian State Orchestra, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin,\u00a0<\/span>the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Utah Symphony, the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra and the Netherlands Philharmonic\u00a0<\/span>Orchestra as well as the Cellobiennale Amsterdam, tours with the Bundesjugendorchester and an extensive trio tour of\u00a0<\/span>Europe with Anne-Sophie Mutter and Lambert Orkis, and return to the Tonhalle-Orchester Z\u00fcrich and the Florida Orchestra.\u00a0<\/span>Together with Herbert Schuch and Hisako Kawamura, he will play recitals, and trios with Sarah Christian and Timothy\u00a0<\/span>Ridout. In May 2023, he will premiere a new cello concerto by American composer Katherine Balch with the\u00a0<\/span>Staatsorchester Darmstadt under Karsten Januschke.\u00a0<\/span>His versatile discography is impressive and includes solo concerts as well as recordings with prominent chamber\u00a0<\/span>musicians. He received the ECHO Klassik Prize for his first album (Sony 2011) \u2013 for which he was designated as Young\u00a0<\/span>Artist of the Year \u2013 as well as for his recording of Dvo\u0159\u00e1k\u2019s Cello Concerto with the Bamberg Symphony under the direction\u00a0<\/span>of Sebastian Tewinkel the following year (Sony 2012). Further recordings have included Richard Strauss\u2019 major cello works\u00a0<\/span>with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Bernard Haitink (Sony 2014) and Joseph Haydn\u2019s cello concertos with\u00a0<\/span>the Kammerakademie Potsdam under Antonello Manacorda (Sony 2015). In 2017, Deutsche Grammophon released a\u00a0<\/span>highly acclaimed recording of Schubert\u2019s Trout Quintet with Anne-Sophie Mutter and Daniil Trifonov, amongst others.\u00a0<\/span>Further recordings were released on Genuin, Linn Records, NEOS, Bridge Records, and CPO. In October 2018, myrios\u00a0<\/span>classics released his recording of Dmitri Shostakovich\u2019s Cello Concerto No. 2 and Sulkhan Tsintsadze\u2019s Cello Concerto No. 2\u00a0<\/span>with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Andris Poga.\u00a0<\/span>Maximilian Hornung, born 1986 in Augsburg, began taking cello lessons at the age of eight. The teachers with whom he\u00a0<\/span>has studied most intensely are Eldar Issakadze, Thomas Grossenbacher, and David Geringas. As cellist of the Tecchler Trio,\u00a0<\/span>in which he played until 2011, he won the First Prize of the ARD Music Competition in 2007. At the age of only 23, he\u00a0<\/span>became first principal cellist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and held this position until 2013. Maximilian\u00a0<\/span>Hornung has been supported and sponsored by the Anne-Sophie Mutter Circle of Friends Foundation and Borletti-Buitoni\u00a0<\/span>Trust London.
